motorcycle tours antigua guatemala

You will receive a short introduction on driving in Guatemala prior to the tour. During the trip, the participants will be permanently monitored by the tour guide. Should somebody fall behind, we stop and wait until the group is closed again.

The pace is chosen in a way that everybody should feel comfortable with. However, you will spend 4 to 6 hours in the saddle, depending on the tour, which requires an appropriate physical and mental fitness.

The tours are designed for cruising and are not particularly technical. Still, a valid motorcycle drivers license is mandatory.

Safety is paramount and appropriate clothing is required. Ideally, this consists of:

  • Motorcycle Jacket
  • Motorcycle boots
  • Motorcycle gloves
  • Helmet

Helmets, jackets and gloves in standard sizes are provided by Mayan Crossroads. If you can plan ahead, you may consider bringing your own gear for added comfort and safety on longer trips.

Traffic conditions in Guatemala, are comparable to those in southern European countries. For North Americans this can take some getting used to but observing some basic rules takes you a long way. The most important ones are:

  • Look ahead
  • Be aware of sudden obstacles all the time
  • Exercise patience

Not much different than riding in other countries, really. Despite the relatively unorganized traffic, road accidents are surprisingly rare in Guatemala.
